Sporting News NFL head coach rankings put Chicago Bears’ Matt Nagy 28th

In the NFL offseason there is Draft Season, Free Agency Season, Minicamp Season and then Rankings Season.

During the long stretch from the end of minicamps until training camps kick off there is not much in the way of news, minus the occasional transgression or boisterous prediction from a kids’ summer camp a player makes.

So the NFL media resorts to rankings. Power rankings, best draft picks, worst signings, etc., etc.

Today in ‘random rankings,’ the Sporting News took a stab at ranking all of the NFL head coaches in a handy slideshow.

Since there are a number of brand new head coaches with no previous experience, it is pretty tough to rank them. Most wouldn’t expect the Bears’ new, 40-year-old head coach Matt Nagy to be ranked super high then and those people are right!

He came in 28th.

Said Sporting News:

The Bears are tapping into the youth movement with Nagy, a 40-year-old coach who has led an aggressive movement for Chicago through both free agency and the draft. It will be interesting to see how that corresponds to the development of second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Nagy was the coordinator for a top-10 offense across the board in Kansas City last season.

Behind Nagy are three fellow brand new head coaches: Matt Patricia of the Detroit Lions (32nd), Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans (31st), Pat Shurmur of the New York Giants (30th) and one veteran coach, Hue Jackson of the Cleveland Browns (29th).

He ranks third among new coaches with Frank Reich of the Colts being the highest ranked (25th) and Steve Wilks of the Panthers (27th) beating him out.

Is this too high or too low for Nagy or just right?
