Earlier this month, NUEL Live 2019 took place at London’s Red Bull Gaming Sphere, an event that brought together a community of university gamers to showcase the spring season finals.
The NUEL sent Esports News UK a handy release recapping the event.
The NUEL Live 2019 finals included CSGO, Overwatch, Hearthstone and League of Legends and took place from May 3rd to 5th.
Friday May 3rd saw the finals of the CSGO University Championships and boasted what organisers said was one of the liveliest crowds they’ve seen at a NUEL event before.
With Raptros and Protalis casting, Swansea Storm Green went up against the Lancaster Quackheads in a best of three. The final tally was 2-1 to Swansea, who took the trophy and won a trip to ESL One Cologne 2019.
Saturday May 4th hosted two finals in a long but exciting day. Overwatch, casted by Chronicler and BiggHungryPhil saw the Caledonian Chargers and Underwatch fight their final battle of the season. Underwatch took the win 3-1 and will be heading to LA to watch the Overwatch League.
Hearthstone, casted by OliShouts and Sir Salty provided the evening entertainment on Saturday May 4th. The Durham Defenders vs the Cardstoners ended with a close 3-2 scoreline to Durham.
The League of Legends tournament on Sunday May 5th was a real game to fight for, as the winner would not only win a trip to the LEC in Berlin but also the opportunity to represent the UK at the University Esports Masters.
Casters Greyhart and SAGA had a lot of fun casting (and dancing!) as the fight between Bristol Whipped and lol.exe ended with a 3-2 win for lol.exe.
Saturday and Sunday also featured the ROG Takeover. Here, a portion of the event space was dedicated to showcasing some ROG gaming hardware. There was also plenty of Red Bull and pizza to go around.
The NUEL said in a statement: “We would like to thank all of the teams that took part in the Spring Season, all of the attendees, the hardworking staff both at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere and the NUEL members behind the scenes, and the visitors that came along. We hope to see you next time!”
